What We Do
WHAT DOES SGA DO?
The Student Government Association of Mercer University represents and promotes student interest while serving as a liaison between the students and the administration, faculty, and staff. SGA is the outlet for Mercer students to enact change and make this University uniquely molded to the form of its students. Student life is at Mercer is defined by the individuals who bring this campus to life. Our Association strives to advocate on behalf of the multitude of student interests and opinions. Composed of 9 standing committees, an executive board, and 25 senators, the Senate body meets weekly to discuss issues and pass legislation to enhance student life on campus. Our committees focus on a wide-range of campus issues, including academics, campus improvements, Mercer traditions, and connections in the Macon community.
WHO MAKES UP SGA?
The Executive Board is comprised of the Student Body President, Vice President, Parliamentarian, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Media Secretary and the chairs of our nine standing committees: Academic Affairs, Campus Engagement,Campus Safety and Improvements, Contract Services, External Relations, Fiscal Affairs, Heritage Life, Public Relations & Elections, and Student Life and Organizational Affairs.
The Senate Body serves as the “voice” of Mercer students represented by 25 senators. Five senators elect from each class. The remaining five senate seats, Senators at Large, are elected by the entire student body. Senators are responsible for allocating funds to student organizations and initiating resolutions that seek to create positive change on campus.
Student Correspondents are selected by the current President and Vice-President to assist senate committees with various tasks. Student correspondents are vital in planning and executing successful events or programs implemented by their assigned committee.
